Project: Manchester Slide, Batten Kill, Manchester
Location: Batten Kill off Union Street near Manchester wastewater treatment plant, Richville Road, Manchester, VT.
Time Frame: Summer 2003
Partners: Green Mountain National Forest, Town of Manchester, VT, The Orvis Company, Bennington County Conservation District.
Problem Description: Large eroding bank depositing excess sedimentation into the Batten Kill, damaging trout habitat and posing potential threat to Town of Manchester water treatment plant infrastructure.
Project Work Completed: The large sliding bank was stabilized with tree revetments and large woody debris structures at the base plus tree and bush planting along both banks – this enhanced habitat and protected infrastructure.
Photos: The photos above show an excavator at the project site, installation of a piece of large woody debris, and a view of several installed large rootwads driven and anchored into the streambank.
