There will be a presentation about flood resilience related to White Creek in Salem, NY at the Salem Central School at 7pm. I think
this is the school off Rte 153 or Broadway. I believe that a consultant hired by the town will be delivering a report or recommendations,
I am not quite sure.
The White Creek watershed starts in the hills of West Rupert and Sandgate in Vermont, and in flood events all of the water has to get
through a relatively small area of Salem. There are disruptions of flood plain access upstream and also bridges that are too small and narrow that can divert flows in damaging ways. The result is repeated flooding, affecting homeowners, businesses, farms, and roads. It is possible that this consultant will have some useful proposals
that might improve matters for both the stream and those who live along it. We shall see.
The pictures are of various points along White Creek in Salem from a few years ago.
