I have introduced a bill to the Vermont House of Representatives that would require a pilot project to see if increasing the population of aquatic insects would help to lessen the excess nutrients flowing into Lake Champlain.
BKWA has been supporting an effort to provide a coordinator to enhance, improve, and increase the effectiveness of Vermont's watershed groups. Alliance Board member Stan Duncan of Ballston Lake has passed away after struggling with an illness for some time.
As planning for next summer's work goes forward it is with great satisfaction that I can tell all the Batten Kill lovers out there of the continuing support that our work has received.
The Alliance has received a Vermont Ecosystem Restoration Grant to stabilize two eroding banks below along Mill Brook in Rupert. The approaches taken will include extensive planting of trees and bushes, log stabilization structures at the foot of the bank, and improving flood plain access.
